Lindsey´s Story
Dr. Avara,
Thanks to you I have now lost a total of 165 pounds. I have gone from a size 26 to a 14 and dropped a whole shoe size. I FEEL FANTASTIC!!!!!! I have so much energy, more than I ever thought I would.
That energy is much needed now because of our precious addition to our family, our baby boy Logan Michael. After so many doctors telling us that we would not be able to conceive a child because of my weight, we were blessed in April 2005 to welcome Logan into our lives. I know that without you, this would not have been possible. My life has completely changed. I have been trying to think of a way to really tell you how grateful I am that you are my Doctor. I don´t think that there are words to thank you enough.
I think about my journey everyday; how scared I was before surgery, but you were always there. I have told so many people that no matter what situation I was facing or situation I was in, there was something about you sitting with me and touching my arm that instantly calmed me. Because of you...I now am able to live the life that I have always wanted!!!
I sit here now writing this letter with tears in my eyes and nothing but joy in my heart.

Amecsa´s Story
Ever since I was a young child I have struggled with my weight. I tried every weight loss program known to man. Nothing worked. It was always an emotional roller coaster and I was a bundle of emotions. Sometimes I felt very low and even suicidal. The worst thing for me about being overweight was not being able to do normal things with my husband and child. All I wanted to do was eat, sleep and hide from the world. I was very depressed. My daughter at the time of my surgery was 4 years old and she missed out on so much because "Mommy was too tired to play with her."
From the moment I met Dr. Avara I felt safe. I felt as though I could put all of my fears to rest and I knew that he would take care of me. I was at peace.
After my surgery, I could always call and talk to one of the nurses and on a couple of occasions I even spoke to Dr. Avara. That totally blew my mind! How often do you get to talk directly to your surgeon? Most of the time a nurse will relay a message but in this case he talked to me with comforting words and it made all the difference. I can´t begin to say how truly thankful I am that I met Dr. Avara because he SAVED MY LIFE! He gave me the tools that I needed to turn my life around.
My goal was to lose 150 pounds and I have by far exceeded my expectations. I went from 302 pounds to 145 pounds in a little over 16 months. I am now in a size 8. The day of my surgery I wore a size 26. I can walk a flight of stairs without being totally exhausted. My legs don´t hurt. I am the happiest I have ever been in my life and I wouldn´t change a thing. I love me and others are allowed to love me now.
In the past I was hostile and very hard to get along with so everyone around me was just as miserable as I was. That has all changed and now people don´t have to pay the price because of me. I decided to have the surgery because of my daughter. She deserved to have a mother that was going to live to see her become an adult and I knew that if I didn´t do something about my weight I wouldn´t be around.
People react to me totally different now. Some people don´t even recognize me. Some of my family members don´t even recognize me until I begin to talk. I get so much attention from my husband now and that is the most awesome feeling. To hear him say ´you ´re beautiful ´ is music to my ears. I would not recommend that a person have the surgery unless they are ready for the change that it entails. Nothing will ever be the same again. So research it, ask people that have had the surgery questions. Don´t think that it is a quick fix because it isn´t. It is a lifelong commitment and you have to be emotionally ready. I would recommend Dr. Avara because he is the best thing that ever happened in my life and I love him.

Rita´s Story
I can honestly say that this is the best thing that I´ve ever done for myself. It has transformed my life a great deal. I have gone from size 24 clothing to a size 8 and I have the energy to do things that I never thought I´d be able to do. One hundred and thirty pound weight loss kind of does that to you. If I had known years ago what I know now about this surgery, I would have had it many years ago. It has been such a positive thing in my life. I´m much happier, more active, and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
